President's Report 2024-2025

Last year was a busy yet rewarding year. We began our significant project of website migration to a new plaform, making it simpler and clearer, and highlighting key points to help members and donors better understand our mission and activities. The project will be expected to be completed by the end of year 2025.

In an effort to reach out to more children in need of help and to identify gaps in childcare services, after a very successful pilot year of the Small Grant Application Project – which provided funding to four organizations -the Foundation has entered its second year of this project, reopening applications for small grants to over forty non-profit childcare organizations in the Lower Mainland. We received 20 applications from different organizations in 2024. After careful reviews by the Program Committee, the Foundation provided grants of $3,000 to $10,000 to the following nine organizations:

  • BC Centre for Ability - Social Work Bursary Program

  • Kiwassa Neighbourhood House - 1-1 Support Program

  • Downtown Eastside Neighbourhood House - Strengthening Education and Supports Program

  • Gordon Neighbourhood House – Parent-Child Mother Goose Program

  • South Vancouver Neighbourhood House —Education Explorers Program

  • Frog Hollow Neighbourhood House – Indigenous and MulD-cultural Drop-in Program

  • Langley Community Services Society - Advocating for Families Experiencing Financial Barriers Program

  • Inclusion Langley Society - Music Therapy Program

  • Urban Horse Project – Empowering Children with Disabilities Through Learning with Horses Program

In China, we continued to support the Sunrise Reading Program for children in rural areas. Unfortunately, the program was ended in January 2025 due to health issues faced by their program coordinator. The foundation is actively seeking other worthwhile programs in China now. In total, the Foundation expended $71,000 in 2024 to help children in Canada and China. More information on these projects can be found on our website.

With a heavy heart, we mourn the loss of our beloved founder, Eileen Lin, who left us on July 16, 2024. Our foundation was founded by Eileen and her husband Professor Paul Lin in 1981. Since then, we have supported numerous children’s projects in China and in Canada. Eileen was not just the heart and soul of this foundation; she was a great inspiration to all of us with her noble character, kind intentions, and the example of selfless giving. Her vision and dedication to our cause will continue to inspire us as we carry on her legacy.

The Foundation held a fundraising afternoon tea event on October 2024. It was our first time hosting this event in a beautiful art gallery, CICA Vancouver. Many guests and donors expressed positive feedback about this change. Additionally, we received many donations in memory of Eileen from her families and friends. As a result of these fundraising activities, the Foundation raised a total of $47,800 in donations and ended the year 2024 with a cash balance of $153,000, leaving us in a comfortable position to continue our work in helping children in need.

In 2024, we were very happy to welcome two new members of the Board of Directors: Michelle Zhang and Sabrina Hou. These new Directors have brought fresh energy and ideas to the Foundation’s work. I would like to thank the Board and volunteers for their diligent efforts in delivering meaningful programs to children. We are also most grateful to the many supporters of the Foundation whose generous donations over the years have made it possible for us to fulfill our mission of striving to address unmet needs and fill gaps in existing services in order to improve the education, health, and welfare of children
